Teaching

My recent Undergraduate university teaching includes contributions to modules on social justice in education and on reflective practice for education practitioners. My recent Postgraduate teaching includes contributions to modules on research theory and practice (critical realism), and on creative approaches to research dissemination. I also supervise Master’s student dissertations.

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). I am also a Professional Standards Advisor, supporting colleagues at Newcastle University who are applying for their own HEA fellowship.

From 2010-2015 I was a learning and teaching development officer at Newcastle University. My role included organising the learning and teaching seminar series, co-organising the annual learning and teaching conference, and coordinating the university-level teaching and learning funding scheme. I was also the quality enhancement representative for quality assurance processes of the accreditation of taught programmes, and participated in internal subject reviews of teaching and assessment.

In 2013 I was the deputy course leader for the advanced studies in academic practice course for international academic staff visiting Newcastle University.

In 2008 and 2009 I was an English language teacher at Southeast University in Nanjing, PR China. I led two modules each semester for undergraduate students majoring in English. I completed my CELTA (Postgraduate Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) in 2007, and worked as an English language teacher at private language schools in the UK and in China.

I regularly lead workshops and activities about comics.
